Our Exhibit this Summer is a Quilt Display of Vintage and Handmade Quilts. They are on loan from family and friends of the museum. We have 2 that are over 100 years old. One is the log cabin design made with the red square in the center. This design was used around 1860 to represent the hearth of the home. The yellow or orange center represented the welcoming light in the window. It is exciting to think that these were made while sitting by the fire or under the light of a kerosene lantern. Little by little every evening after a long hard day of chores, they found the time to make these beautful quilts.
